Those Lot formed in London in 2025, but two of its members Laurie Blayney and Stan Thompson came up from Penzance, Cornwall before linking with London-based Seb Powell and Luke Faiers. What followed was a full year of rehearsal before the band recorded anything. That kind of deliberate patience is either discipline or stubbornness, and "She Takes Me There" suggests it was both.
She Takes Me There is a song about the importance of having that one person, or nobody at all.
That either/or framing gives the song a sharper emotional edge than a straightforward love song would allow. It's about the weight of needing someone and the strange dignity of needing no one. Produced by Shuta Shinoda and mastered by John Webber at Air Studios, the whole thing was tracked over two days at Strongroom Studios fast enough to keep the urgency intact. The bright guitars that lead into the soft, emotional vocals make an impressive start. The intrigue that follows, fueled by rumbling bass and percussion, creates a perfect pairing. Once connected, the driving flow delivers an angelic sensation that is unforgettable.
Those Lot aren't the first band to say something like that, but "She Takes Me There" is driving, raw indie rock that actually backs the claim up less a manifesto than a demonstration.
A year of rehearsal before a single session is a strange kind of confidence, and it turns out Those Lot were right to trust it.
