NYC house producer GABE STOLI introduces the project with "CAN YOU FEEL IT," a first single built around a driving four-on-the-floor pulse and a clear affection for 90s house. It's a focused, energetic introduction. Working with collaborators D Stone and Josh Butler, STOLI keeps the groove firm and the arrangement uncluttered.
The vocals give the track its bite. A forceful, high-register lead repeats against a short, rhythmic spoken sample, with each bringing a different pressure to the groove. The lead is clear and piercing enough to cut through the accompaniment, and its urgency gives the repetition some welcome friction. Bright synthesizer stabs reinforce the rhythm while leaving room for the pulsing low end. There's plenty of insistence here, but the parts remain distinct.
STOLI cites ANOTR, Kaytranada and Flume among the project's influences, though the 90s house connection is the clearest reference point on this single. The arrangement sticks closely to its central patterns, so the vocal contrast has plenty of work to do. To my ears, it does enough to keep that steady drive engaging.
This is the start of what’s going to be a long career!!
STOLI has a good instinct for giving a straightforward groove personality through a few well-chosen parts.
