SEPH's "Alien" opens on a pulsing synthesizer bassline that locks in and you start moving to it. The production is wide, reverb stretched across the synth pads and vocals alike, everything floating at a slight distance like sound heard through the hull of a ship. It fits the outer-space theme without leaning on it too hard.

But the contrast is what stopped me cold. The groove wants your body moving while the lyrics are pulling inward. "Body full of steel, protect it all so I don't have to feel" lands right over a beat that almost sounds celebratory, and that friction is disorienting in a way that works. SEPH's voice starts breathy and close in the verses, then cracks open into a soaring head-voice on the chorus that hits different every time I come back to it.

"Alien" is the lead single from SEPH's upcoming 3rd studio album, and if this is the direction the record is heading… I'll be first in line.
