Nicosongs' new single "In My Mind" opens with a floating grouping of notes that are warm and close, before the electronic beat rolls in underneath and the whole thing shifts into something much bigger. Stopped me cold.
The production from sb90 carves out serious space. Wide synth pads push to the edges, the reverb on the vocals stretches long, and the track just breathes. What I keep coming back to is the vocal arrangement: verse delivery is tight and rhythmic, almost spoken in places, and then the chorus opens into layered atmospheric harmonies that float above the mix. The falsetto accents land at exactly the right moments, and the voice carries a warmth that makes the distance in those long reverb tails feel intentional. Who influenced this release?
The Weeknd and slower tracks by Tyla. I love a track that has depth, but still makes you want to move.
That's exactly what "In My Mind" does. The mid-tempo beat keeps your feet engaged while something else pulls at the chest. Nicosongs built the melodies and most of the lyrics inside a single three-hour session with sb90… and it shows none of the rush. It feels lived-in.
One to watch out of Melbourne.
