GET BEC's debut single "Cocoon" pulled me in before I even clocked what was happening. The rubbery synth bassline kicks, and suddenly you're already nodding, already three steps behind it, and it doesn't let up once.
What makes this one stick is the distance between the sound and the subject matter. Bright, punchy synths, a production finish that sounds like it cost way more than a lounge room studio in Perth... and underneath all of it, lyrics threading through desire, obsession, and the kind of bad decisions that feel irresistible at 2am. Bubblegum with teeth.
Her vocals are sweet and melodic on the surface, but there's a sly, knowing edge in how she delivers the more possessive lines, like she's aware of exactly how unhinged the fantasy is and couldn't care less.
The layered harmonies on the chorus stack fast and land with a satisfying thud. Pure earworm energy.
Abi Bec wrote and produced the whole thing herself, and that control shows. "Cocoon" has a clear personality, a sharp one, and I haven't stopped replaying it since the first spin.
