Deflecting Ghosts come out swinging on "Narcissist," and I mean that. The Drop B guitars hit like a door slamming shut, thick and suffocating, while a pulsing synth arpeggio underneath keeps the whole thing from collapsing into pure noise. Heavy but controlled.
The vocals stopped me cold. Clean and melodic through the verses, then the bridge arrives and everything cracks open into something raw and desperate, a shift in delivery so sharp it feels like two people fighting for the same mic. That range is no small thing.
And then it just... breaks.
The band described wanting "Narcissist" to feel like its subject matter: "angry, suffocating and chaotic, but still melodic enough that the emotion doesn't get buried underneath the heaviness." They pulled it off. Production from Bulletride Productions keeps it radio-sharp without sanding down the aggression, and those atmospheric electronics run an uneasy undertow beneath the whole track, suits the manipulation and psychological exhaustion written into every line.
Out of Hutchinson, Kansas, Deflecting Ghosts are building something with real teeth. "Narcissist" is proof.
