Animal Souls' new single "Colorful Land" featuring Ella Blame is the kind of track that stops you mid-scroll and holds you there. The synth bassline kicks in around the 22-second mark, and from that point the song just locks in, driving forward with a warm, steady pulse that feels equal parts dreamy and propulsive.
Ella Blame's vocals carry it. The delivery shifts from a close, almost whispered intimacy in the verses into swelling layered harmonies that bloom wide open by the second verse... and you feel that shift in your chest. One second someone is speaking directly into your ear, the next you're surrounded on all sides.
I've been quiet for awhile, dealing with some life issues. However, I have been chipping away now for just over a year on a new album 'THE ABYSS'.
A cut from the upcoming THE ABYSS, "Colorful Land" leans into lush reverb-soaked pads and arpeggiated synths that give the whole thing a retro-futuristic glow. Lyrics like "just in my head" and "everything must be mostly upside down" sit inside the mix without fighting it, which takes restraint, and Animal Souls has it.
Pure atmosphere. And I want more.
