Sebastian Clarin’s "A Strange Scent of Cyan" channels 80s new wave with bright synth leads and a sequenced bassline that refuses to quit. The track pairs upbeat, danceable choruses with a dark electronic atmosphere that pulled me in fast. Produced alongside Henrik B, the analog synths pulse with a raw, relentless dance beat.
It is easier to count than to feel. At least numbers can be controlled
The melodic, nasal vocals maintain a cool, deadpan detachment in the verses before dropping into a sudden, eerie whispered outro. Before diving into this alt-pop space on the 2022 debut album Aerial Cuts, Clarin drummed for the indie pop act Smash Hit Wonders. This release builds on that rhythmic foundation. The stark contrast between the driving mid-tempo energy and that final spoken-word whisper stopped me cold.
