A New Chapter for Sam Smith

GRAMMY, BRIT, Golden Globe, and Oscar-winning artist Sam Smith released their fifth studio album, Hazel Eyes, on August 5. Arriving via Capitol Records, the project emerged as Smith navigated a time of monumental change, which included falling in love and relocating to New York City. The album transforms a real-time love story into a meditation on living with an unguarded heart while celebrating queer love with complete honesty.

Hazel Eyes follows Smith's 2023 album Gloria, which featured the global smash single "Unholy" with Kim Petras. For this new release, the artist connected with co-producers Simon Aldred and David Odlum. The trio worked at Electric Lady Studios in New York City to record the project. The album incorporates elements of baroque pop, British folk, outlaw country, and left-field R&B. It also features contributions from indie-pop artist Feist, multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, Rob Moose, and the 28-member TwoCity Chorus vocal collective.

Honesty and Vulnerability

In many ways, this album brought me closer to myself than I’ve ever been. It taught me to embrace what comes naturally to me as an artist and honor the music I love most, which is timeless pop that connects with people from all walks of life. It also showed me that being vulnerable isn’t just about exposing your pain. It can be just as vulnerable to be openly romantic. And in the world we’re living in right now, singing about queer love with complete honesty and directness feels very important.

Alongside the album, Smith released a music video for the single "Constant Companion". The video was filmed in Spain, directed by Albert Moya, and choreographed by (LA)HORDE. Looking ahead, Smith will perform a series of live dates across the United Kingdom this September, following a recent performance at the National Auditorium in Mexico City. The upcoming schedule includes multiple nights at the Albert Hall in Manchester and the Coliseum in London.
