Magenta Ray's new single "A Kiss Like This" opens with something close to a secret. Lisa Hart's voice drops in low and whispery, almost too close to the mic, and the guitars are clean and coiled tight. You feel it before anything breaks.

Then the chorus hits. Hart moves from that intimate hush to a full, desperate belt, her voice cracking open on the high notes like she physically cannot hold it back, and the guitars go thick and distorted and the whole track surges forward. It floored me.

The bassline is the anchor through all of it, this slow rolling groove that keeps everything from flying apart when the track gets loud and chaotic. The tremolo guitar pans fast, disorienting, making the room spin… which is exactly what the song is about.

Pure vertigo.

The band put it plainly: "A Kiss Like This" is all about the anticipation of a first kiss when the spiritual and physical connection are electrifying and true love is fueling the fire of passion. You hear that in every shift. The verses feel like held breath. Then the chorus hits and you finally exhale, loud and relieved and still wanting more.
