Lisac's "Nobody Asked You" hooked me from the first few bars and never loosened its grip. The electric bass is doing the heavy lifting here, and I mean that as the highest compliment. It's melodic, warm, locked into a groove that anchors the whole track. Everything else orbits around it.
The verses are where things get interesting. Lisac moves through these smooth, sustained phrases... and then suddenly launches into a rapid-fire, percussive run where the lyrics tumble over each other almost faster than you can follow. It's a jolt every time. Then the hook opens back up and you exhale.
Backing vocals weave in high-register call-and-response lines around the lead. Classic soul approach, but it lands fresh here, not borrowed.
Neo-soul that actually grooves.
The lead vocal carries a real edge through the quicker phrasing, then stretches wide on the hook with a kind of unhurried control that takes a second to appreciate. Lisac isn't rushing to impress you. The track just settles into your chest and stays there.
