Flame's debut live EP Medea In Blue opens with "Naive," and this Edinburgh five-piece waste no time making a case for themselves.
The track is mid-tempo but it moves with intent the whole way through, driven by a rhythm section that locks in early and holds. Guitars stay clean and intricate in the verses, almost restrained… then the chorus opens up, fuller and harder, and the shift lands because the band made you wait for it.
Fiammetta Nisio's voice sits in a mid-to-high register, smooth and controlled through the verses before rising into something rawer when the chorus hits, that climb stops me cold every time.
The bridge guitar solo is a proper focal point. Not flashy. Just melodic and purposeful, threading the second and final choruses together.
Recorded live in an Edinburgh rehearsal studio. The rawness is the point. I kept replaying it.
