Dave Hill Jr.'s "Chasing Stars" pulled me in slowly, and then all at once. Mid-tempo, folk-leaning, unhurried. Guitar and bass hold the center and the whole thing feels warm and a little weightless.

The lead vocals are the anchor, though. Low, conversational, lived-in, and when the choruses push, there's a rawness there that doesn't reach for anything showy. It just sits in the feeling and lets it land. That's not easy.

This song is special to me and has been a fan favorite when I play it.

You hear why. "Chasing Stars" is the title track off the upcoming album Chasing Stars, and if this is Hill leading with his best, I'm already waiting on what comes next.

I have only been singing for four years and am 55 years old.

Four years. Nothing here sounds tentative.

People tell me they like the raw nature of my voice and that I sound like Randy Newman... I don't always agree, but that's art. You never know what people might like or respond to. My job is to just keep writing songs and sharing them with the world.

Chasing Stars is the title track of my album coming out this year.

I release singles each month (most of the time!) rather than albums.

Thanks for your time!
